De Leon ISD remains dedicated to supporting students as they learn toward EXCELLENCE.  This past school year was certainly one we shall not soon forget, and I am sure our students will tell their grandchildren about the “Longest Spring Break in History.”  However, we are so proud of those students, their parents and our instructional staff who rose to the occasion and ensured that teaching and learning continued.  It was not perfect, but we gleaned a great deal of knowledge from the experience and know that it has made DISD a more effective instructional institution.

The District will be offering an Asynchronous Instruction Plan (instruction that does not require having the instructor and the student engaged at the same time) for the coming year which enables parents to have the choice of sending their students to school for face-to-face instruction or choose to have their student participate in remote learning.  The Texas Education Agency is providing guidance for our District as we develop this plan, and we have a committee that includes parents, medical professionals, teachers and administrators working to make sure the plan will fit the needs of the children of De Leon ISD.  Parents have already been surveyed so that we will be ready to accommodate all decisions on the first day of school.

Safety precautions are already in place with extra cleaning staff, hand sanitizers at entries, face shields as well as masks available for both students and staff, equipment that will allow for each classroom and bus to be fogged after students leave each day, water fountains retrofitted for bottle refills, additional cleaning supplies, thermometers, etc.

Please be assured that we are committed to meeting the instructional needs of our students, and we will make every effort to keep each of them safe.  The District will be providing additional information as it becomes available.

We know our parents join us as we work together to make De Leon ISD the School of Choice for this part of Texas.

For Children,

In the fullness of time, who can doubt that the germ of public education will flourish and prosper……Such was the dream of the patriotic fathers of Texas…As we have supplemented their efforts, so will those who follow us continue the good work until the grand consummation is reached.”

These words were spoken in 1876 by Governor Richard Coke during his Inauguration Address. The teachers, staff, school board, and students of De Leon ISD continue that dream and are committed to excellence for all. Our educational programs are designed to prepare our students to function in the future and challenge them to be lifelong learners.

De Leon ISD strives to provide a well-rounded education for each learner which will prepare him or her for participation in a global society as they contribute to the overall success of their communities, their state and the world.

Welcome to De Leon ISD. We hope you will join us as we work toward Excellence for All.

For children,

Dana S. Marable, Ph.D.
